Tanning Bed to Troopergate: Palin Aides Kept Scrambling

September 19th, 2008 by admin

“It’s vetting gone haywire,” said Gov. Sarah Palin’s beleaguered press secretary, Bill McAllister, as he dealt with a new round of questions about the governor — this time about a tanning bed installed in the governor’s mansion in Juneau.

In the 2½ weeks since Palin was named to the GOP ticket, McAllister’s phone has been ringing off the hook from national reporters who have descended on the state to look into the background of the governor.

Monday, US Weekly and a blog, NarcoNews, reported that “the former beauty queen’s penchant for a bronzed body” led to the installation of a “private tanning bed” shortly after she took office.

“She paid for it herself,” said McAllister from his Anchorage office. He told ABC News he had “no idea” why she had installed the machine but confirmed it was installed in the mansion.

Sarah Palin installed a tanning bed at the governor’s mansion

September 16th, 2008 by admin

What’s the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull?

A tanning bed!

Seems Sarah Palin installed a tanning bed in the governor’s mansion in 2007.

“She did. She paid for it with her own money,” Roger Wetherell, chief communications officer of Alaska’s Department of Transportation and Public Facilities told Us Weekly.

“It was done shortly after she took office [in early 2007] and moved into the mansion,” Wetherell told the Narco News, who first reported the story.

According to Wetherell, it was paid for with her own money and purchased used from a health club.

Tanning beds can cost up to $35,000 to install in a home — not including  parts, Alaska-based Color Me Tan manager Erin Weise told the Narco News. Weise added, “I don’t think it’s normal for people to have a tanning bed in their house. It’s expensive.”

Palin’s running mate, John McCain, battled skin cancer in 1993 and 2000 and has admitted to being a regular wearer of SPF 30, long sleeves and a hat in the sun. Bet he won’t be in favor of her installing one of these babies.

The irony here is that Palin declared May 2007 to be Skin Cancer Awareness Month in Alaska. In the press release, it read, “Skin cancer is caused, overwhelmingly, by over-exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun and from tanning beds.”

Get your glow on: fake tanning 101

August 28th, 2008 by admin
Many women baulk at the idea of fake tanning their face – you can just see the visions of orange streaky faces popping in to their heads at the mere mention of it.

But contrary to popular belief, faux tanning your face is actually far easier than doing your body as there is far less chance of streaking – and the glow that a coat of a good fake tan can create is phenomenal.

Step one:
Wash your face and remove every ounce of makeup – in-fact, wash it twice just for good measure.

Step two:
Exfoliate your face thoroughly with a medium grain facial exfoliant, or mix one part sugar to three parts daily facial wash to create your own.

Step three:
After all this cleansing and scrubbing, your face will need a good moisturiser. Slap some on and then wait about 10 minutes so it has time to sink in.

Step four:
Scrape your hair back with a head band so it does not get in the way

Step five:
The key to a good facial fake tanning session is to go slowly and carefully, so don’t put too much on your hands to start off with. Use your finger tips to spread it evenly over your face, making sure that you go right to your hair line, and cover every bit of skin. Don’t worry too much about getting it in your hair – you don’t want to be coating your locks in it of course, but a little bit is not the end of the world as it will wash out.

Step six:
Massage all over your face with your finger tips to make sure the fake tan is spread evenly.

Step seven:
Take a facial wipe, wet paper towel, or old wet towel and wipe your eyebrows carefully to remove any excess product. Do the same, very lightly (you don’t want to remove ALL the product) around your nose, hairline, and the crease in your chin if you have one.

If you follow these instructions you should end up with a healthy glow and no one will be any the wiser that it came out of the bottle. I usually do my face at night before I go to bed, as wandering around during the day with a fake-tan shiny face is not very pleasant!

Make sure to wash your hands after too.
